My name is Grace Harrison and I am currently in the process of obtaining my bachelor's degree in Kindergarten Elementary Education at McGill University. I plan on furthering my education with a Master's degree.
I live in the beautiful Laurentian mountains and spend my free time outdoors as much as I can.
My passions include travelling, skiing, horseback riding and farm life. I enjoy the little things in life and seek adventure. I am one that does not love stepping out of their comfort zone yet every once in a while I throw in a new obstacle to create spontaneity.
I am fluently bilingual and hope to have the opportunity to teach in both English and French. I am highly-dependable, hardworking and seek to provide a hands-on-approach to learning. Moreover, I have an outgoing personality with the unique ability to adapt to all situations using expertise and judgment to plan and deliver goals. I am able to work both independently and as a team player with highly effective written and verbal communication skills. Not to mention committed to a high calibre of childcare services with a proven track record of success.
From a very young age I aspired to be a teacher. I had the chance to experience living in the Caribbean when i was younger due to a job opportunity that had presented itself for my mother. It was in Grade 8, my teacher Miss D that convinced me I wanted to teach one day myself. Furthermore ever since I was a little girl, children have always seemed to take a particular liking to me. The formation of a bond with children seems almost instantaneous and I see it as a beautiful gift. After all, an educators wish is to form a trusting and caring relationship with their students. You ultimately help them in their life and they should feel safe with you.
Becoming a teacher is such a rewarding career when you are passionate about it as me. Teachers can have such a strong impact on a students life. In reason to that, I believe it is importantly to view children independent to one another as we do not know what is going on at home. All children are unique to one another and I am a strong believer in adaptability where there is not one distinct way and method to educate a child.
I had the experience to live on the beautiful island of Saint Maarten during my childhood. The exposure to living in a different country with diverse cultures brought me so much. I developed desirable skills which led to a strong development in cultural awareness. I am continuously thankful for the experience as it positively affects my daily life. In education, it is crucial for those to be culturally educated as we must promote equality and equity to all.
