The image of the children assignment was based off of the Reggio Emilia approach. The approach can be found in my resources under Kindergarten Pedagogy for further details.
The Image of the Child gave us the opportunity to reflect on a child's abilities, development, purpose, rights (equality/equity) as well as their curiosities and motivations. In the company of teammates, we decided to look at a child through the lens of an explorer.
We believe that children are explorers because they learn through experience. Children learn to become good citizens when they experience different ways of behaving from various components such as nature, sociodramatic plays, sports and emotions.
We explored four different areas:
1. Nature; children learn through exploring nature. Children learn to become more independent.
2. Sociodramatic play; children are active, responsible and creative beings who explore the world through games and imagination.
3. Sports; children are naturally very active. They move and explore constantly since birth.
4. Emotions; children explore through emotions. Emotions help children associate themselves with different groups of children who experience similar emotions as them.
Our philosophy reflects on the child having the freedom to learn by experience.
As educators, it is our responsibility to create opportunities for our students to explore in different ways. The only way to make students experience is to let them explore.
**The Image of the Child provided above was a piece of work that I wanted to display as there are many ways to perceive a child and aid them in their path of learning and development. I believe every child has their own unique image and as an educator one must work to discover what that is in order to be able to provide them with the best possible education. A difficult task yet one that is not impossible. **
